Lunenburg High School Reviews

This school needs alot of work. The building needs alot of improvement.

I'm a student at Lunenburg High and I have to say it is a great place to be. LHS is a place of diversity and something interesting is always going on. It is a safe place and the teachers are knowledgeable and fun at the same time. Sometimes a new budget kicks in and the school goes through moderatly tough times being an older building. But I promise the school will get better because the current students are very bright. Lunenburg may be a small town but people come in from all over to come to LHS. The bottom line is I have pride in this school and the smallest metropolis- Lunenburg MA!

I agree that the High School does need some improvement especially in the building conditions and technology departments. But I feel that what many of the parents failed to mention is that in relation to the neighboring towns the Lunenburgs school system excels in comparison. I grew up in Lunenburg and went to school there from k-12. There are town politics that do sometimes play into how the school systems are run. But as far as education goes I believe the teachers and the community real help students grow into striving open minded young adults. The Lunenburg school system provided me with the tools I needed to do very well in College and most importantly taught me to be an active, down to earth, well rounded person.

The High School is in shambles. I moved here 6 years ago and 2 younger children as well as one in the High school. I wonder where the tax money in this town goes? I would guess to the new police station along with it's toy collection of boats, jet-skis, atvs, etc. In the kitchen the paint on the cieling is flaking off into the food below...not a good statement for such a safe nice town. I would suggest going for a real tour before you send your kids. The school is very safe, most kids are from the same econonic background so stealing and violenece are very low. Text books and equipment are from the early 70s...(I am not kidding). The town has started building new schools starting with K-2. Hopefully they will do the same for the other three schools.

We, too, considered Lunenburg for its school system. We, too, are unimpressed. For the kids who go to school to do their 4 years of high school and move on, it's not a bad place. For the ones who have so much more to offer in an academic setting, there are no programs to encourage that. The 'advanced' kids seem to get left behind, and completely lack any challenge in their work. The mindset of the schools is very outdated, and (to echo another review) so much - throughout the whole town - either happens for you or does not, based on what your last name is. I'm glad to see (from the other reviews) that I am not alone in this observation.

If you are an 'average joe', Lunenburg High is the place for you. Students on either end of the spectrum get lost in the crowd. The LHS administration 'talks the talk', but when it comes time to 'walk the walk', they fall short. The stats don't tell you what you need to know, if you're considering Lunenburg, do your homework.

Although we moved to Lunenburg because we understood that the schools were very good, we certainly have not been 'wowed'. Academically basic, the entire school system tends to live in the past. 'This is the way we did it when I went to school here' tends to over ride any progressive thinking. You're lucky if you're a 'jock'. Sports tends to lead to your popularity as well as parent, town, and system support. Especially if your a male student. Girls teams are certainly considered less then a priority as seen in uniforms, coaching, and school promotion. It seems to be a safe environment with basic learning and academic skills a priority. I'm not familiar with students with disabilities or academic challenges, however, the students who excel academically are limited in their ability to expand their curriculum.
